Supported Browsers & Required Settings
The only supported browser for access to CPBS web and the Brio-Hyperion Budget Datamarts is Internet Explorer version 5.5 service pack 2 through version 6.x.
Note: As of 1/31/2008, Internet Explorer version 7.0 is not supported by Hyperion, please do not upgrade at this time.
- Use ONLY Internet Explorer version 5.5 service pack 2 through version 6.x. Internet Explorer version 7.x is not currently supported.

Use ONLY Internet Explorer version 5.5 SP 2 through 6.x. Internet Explorer version 7.x is not currently supported.
In 2004, the web interface for CPBS was modified to work only with Internet Explorer (IE) version 5.5 Service Pack 2 through and including all versions of IE 6.x, running on a Windows 2000 or later platform.
Only these browsers and platforms are supported. “Support” in this context means that we built and tested the interface to these specifications and we will be able to troubleshoot any problems you may have.
Why do we only support Internet Explorer:
- There are programming infrastructure features supported in IE and not in Netscape that we wanted to use to improve the functioning of the web interface. One such feature (termed a modal dialog box) allows us prevent the user from taking counterproductive actions during an “update to the mainframe” process. Modal dialog boxes are also used to support object code edits. To deploy these features for multiple browsers would have entailed the construction and maintenance of separate web interfaces for each browser (with a different solution for Netscape). We had neither the time nor the budget to support such an undertaking.
- During the first use of the CPBS web interface in 2002 we observed and users reported many problems that were related to the many combinations of browser and operating systems. We had instances where repairing the problem for one combination introduced a problem for another.
- Most CPBS users are on or have access to Windows machines. The browser program is free and easily available.
- The configuration that we are supporting for CPBS is the same one that is supported for Brio-Hyperion datamarts.
Allow pop-ups & add trusted sites for CPBS Web logon
The pop-up blocker included with the IE security enhancements in Windows XP SP2 may cause the initial CPBS Web logon to fail. To prevent logon failure enter the following domains in the Tools > Pop-up Blocker Settings > Address of Web site to allow:
- budgeting-prod.cit.cornell.edu
- brio.cit.cornell.edu
- dpb.cornell.edu
Pop-up blockers associated with various 3rd party tool bar enhancements may also cause CPBS Web to fail. We recommend removal of ALL 3rd party IE tool bar enhancements that include a pop-up blocker fucntion.
Also, it is important to add the CPBS Web application server and Brio server to your trusted sites security settings. To add the sites, select Tools > Internet Options > Security >Trusted Sites from your Internet Explorer browser bar. Select Sites and add the following URLs:
Allow prompting for downloads
IMPORTANT: Modify browser security settings to allow prompting for downloads - The default settings included with the IE security enhancements in Windows XP SP2 disable the automatic prompting for downloads. As a result, the prompt to open or save an exported worksheet will fail. To allow the prompt, from the Tools menu in IE select Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > Downloads. Select "Enable" Automatic prompting for file downloads.
